Paid Research Internships for Undergraduates, Summer 2006

The CHASS Summer Research in the Community Program is a new program for Summer 2006. Research interns will be paid $8.00 per hour for twenty hours of work per week for eight weeks.

The basis of this program lies in service learning which links the community and the university campus. Service learning is a pedagogy that exposes students to the needs of the larger society, engages them in addressing those needs through community service, and connects what they learn in the classroom to real-world conditions. The Summer Research in the Community Program is based on a service learning model, but with a significant research/performance component. Community organizations have research/performance needs to which students, under the supervision of a faculty mentor, can contribute. Student research interns will utilize their academic expertise in the service of a community organization – a business, a nonprofit institution, a government agency.

Students will find community research projects listed on this site. For more information go to Information for Students.
