Undeclared Program: Preparing for Your Advising Session

Scheduled Appointments

  • Appointments are scheduled by logging the Student Advising Appointment System. To determine if you need to make an appointment, please go to http://chassstudentaffairs.ucr.edu/advising/index.html
  • Be on time for scheduled appointments. If you are more than 5 minutes late, you will need to reschedule.
  • If you are unable to attend an appointment, please call to cancel or reschedule the appointment. Please do not "no show" for your appointment.

The Advising Session

  • Come prepared. Bring a list of questions or concerns.
  • Check the General Catalog, Schedule of Classes and other websites to research your concerns. Complete a degree check on R'Web prior to your appointment.
  • Don't be afraid to ask questions.
  • Be honest and realistic as you discuss your concerns and questions.
  • Share your goals and educational priorities.
  • Convey your limitations and pressures.
  • Follow up on previous recommendations.
  • Be open-minded. Consider the possible alternatives offered to you by your advisor.
  • Helpful suggestions from friends do not replace qualified assistance from an advisor.
